A Guide to the Revised Public Rights of Way Network for Otley & Adjoining Parishes

In partnership with the Parish Council and local landowners, Suffolk County Council has legally revised a number of Definitive Public Rights of Way in the parish of Otley and links to adjoining parishes. This information has been produced by the Countryside Access Project and shows those paths which have been changed and unaltered connecting routes.

Why were the paths changed?

The alterations are designed to rectify variations between the recorded definitive routes and today's landscape. After examining the path network, Otley Parish Council put forward a package of changes to meet the needs of users and farmers, which was developed by the Countryside Access Project. The new routes mainly follow field boundaries and existing tracks, some cross field paths have been straightened.

Are deleted paths still open to the public?

No, only those routes shown on the map are recorded as Public Rights of Way. Private access rights are not affected.

When will the alterations appear on the Ordnance Survey Maps?

The frequency with which Ordnance Survey maps are updated varies considerably but it may be several years before the new paths are incorporated. Until then this map (produced in 1997) should be used to supplement OS Pathfinder sheets 1007 and 1008. All paths have been well signposted.

Does the new network provide any circular routes?

Circular routes have not been waymarked and you should plan your route with care. Several circuits are possible and can be extended using the links to adjoining parishes. Otley Parish Council has produced a leaflet describing two circular walks, one of 3.6 miles and the other 2.7 miles. To view a copy of this leaflet in PDF format please click here.
